Although you were following orders, this shook you to your core as being unjust and uncalled for. It was the first time you questioned the British authority. Yet you made colonel in 1841, and throughout the following years of continued uprisings, you did your duty and gave the order to “Fire!” On September 2, 1859, at age 49, you were hit by Maori return fire and killed.
